Under Murdoch's Watch

May 02, 2008

Rupert Murdoch has had several months to exert influence over his new property, The Wall Street Journal. Many see the modifications to the paper and his grab for Newsday as a direct attack on The New York Times but Slate's Jack Shafer says the speculation is overblown.

Thanks for confirming what I have always thought. In other words, we can thank the audience for the Conservative bent of Fox News. Murdoch is only offering what sells best.

I am certainly unsurprised that he seized control of his property and am unconcerned that he might compete with the New York Times. It's reputation is a bit tarnished and it could use a competitor to sharpen it up. Meanwhile all newspapers need to find a new business model to survive.

Good luck with that.
