Merry Young Trolls

May 08, 2009

On Wednesday, Time Magazine threw a party for the world’s most influential people. One attendee was Christopher Poole, founder of the website 4chan. What set Poole apart from the guests was his mode of entry: he hacked his way in. Mattathias Schwartz has written about Poole and 4chan's dark culture.

I found it it interesting that Mr. Schwartz not mention that 4chan also has a moral (however small) side to it. Anonymous posters have helped in bringing a pedophile to justice as well as getting Hal Turner, a white supremacist internet radio show, off the internet. It was also because of 4chan that gave birth to Anonymous protesting against the Church of Scientology. http://www.whyweprotest.net for more on that. So to say that 4chan is nothing but evil is a misconception.

Sites like 4chan have ruined the Internet's culture. It was once a safe place for nerds to be nerds; now it's a free-fire zone for bullies. Worse, the persistent nature of the Internet means that one cruel post, once indexed and archived, can follow someone for the rest of their life; there have been incidents where college students found their employment options limited by untrue things other people had posted about them. Even if you successfully get content taken down in one place it just crops up again somewhere else.

The modern Internet culture viciously punishes sincerity and greatly rewards cruelty and snark.

also there is a report post button at the bottom of every page, apparently you have not realized this. it is much more convenient than writing letters to old media about things!

Hey, Guess what, you broke rule number 1 and 2, And quote "Burn the jew" you can't call FBI, 4chan in no way endorses any illegal activity on its site, but however to to high traffic it is very hard to remove something immediately, And yes the only way to understand the culture behind the site is to be with it for a while, you clearly weren't and couldn't understand what was going on, so you just complained about how it is a bad place, and insulted all of the users of 4chan, I could insult you in any way shape or form, however im just a young teenager sitting in a basement according to you.

WHY CAN'T YOU SAY MARBLECAKEALSOTHEGAME
